UPDATE (11/17/15) - Elroy has been ADOPTED! His new family is spoiling this boy rotten, and we can't wait to get more pictures and updates to let you know about his progress - stay tuned, and check us out on Facebook for more #HappyTails!
Every time I see Elroy, I keep wanting to call him Leroy and sing "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown...."
But that just wouldn't be right, because Elroy is far from bad! Elroy's foster mom reports that Elroy is an over-sized puppy with a heart of gold and energy to burn! Elroy loves to chase tennis balls, and agrees that the Chuck-it is a life changing invention, buuut he's still working on giving the ball back!
Elroy hasn't had any formal training, but is a smarty pants and has learned "Sit", "Down", and "Leave it" during his time in foster. Elroy's foster mom thinks he could benefit from more training, but with how intelligent this boy is, training should be a breeze!
While playing is fun, so are cuddles. Elroy is happy to curl up near you while you watch TV or read a book. Really he just wants to be near you.
Elroy also likes meeting new people! He gets excited when new people come to the door, and loves to display his good manners. He will wag his tail and dance around, occasionally putting his paws on your legs, but does not bark and isn't overbearing in his greetings.
Potty training has been going well. Elroy will wait at the back door with his foster siblings, or nudge your hand if he needs you. T-minus two weeks since his last accident! Elroy is also slowly getting used to a crating routine, and goes inside for a small treat. He's even been caught sleeping in his crate without any incentive :)
In his foster home Elroy is allowed to roam free during the day and hang out with his foster siblings. So far he has proven trustworthy, and - bonus! - he doesn't get on the furniture!
Elroy is an 18 month old black lab who is currently in foster care through The Heart of Texas Lab Rescue. For more information check out The Heart of Texas website. To meet this sweet boy fill out an online application!
